Anxiety is an unpleasant emotional state of uneasiness and distress, or feeling of impending doom, although there is no obvious threat. It is characterized by apprehension and worry. Some anxiety is normal; it becomes a problem when it interferes with normal activities.
According to Ayurveda, The Ayurvedic term for anxiety is Chhitodveg. Anxiety is a classic sign of imbalance in the body. Prolonged anxiety, stress, and tension affects the nervous system, and can cause many further complications if left uncorrected.

When the body and mind react to danger or threat, a person feels physical sensations of anxiety — things like a faster heartbeat and breathing, tense muscles, sweaty palms, a queasy stomach, and trembling hands or legs. They can be mild or extreme.
CAUSES-

- Family history plays a great role in increasing the chances that a person may develop an anxiety disorder.
- Anxiety has been associated with abnormal levels of few neurotransmitters in the brain. If neurotransmitters are out of balance, messages can't get through the brain in a proper manner. This alters the way the brain reacts in specific situations, leading to anxiety.
- Stressful and traumatic events might lead to anxiety disorder.
The Ayurvedic approach is the answer to anxiety that Ayurveda states that the emotional disorders as well as mental state of a patient must be balanced and should be in equilibrium. The reason behind the anxiety disorders in ayurveda is pragya apradh (the unhealthy adaptation of physical and mental type leading into the mental imbalance), viruddha ahaar vihaar (improper diet, overindulgence in sex, over stress), The improper diet and life style that leads the disturbed state of mind causes the negative feelings that overwhelm the mind. This is termed as manovaha strota vyadhi (the disease of mental condition due to vata dosha.
